Overwatch 2 Reaches 25 Million Players

Despite what many would consider a catastrophic debut for Overwatch 2, the free-to-play game has had over 25 million players in its first ten days. According to Blizzard, the player base is fairly evenly split across North America, Europe, and Asia. It was revealed that the game has already experienced nearly quadruple the daily peak of players than the first Overwatch ever had in its six-year lifespan.

These announcements emphasize how important the transition to a free-to-play model was for Overwatch 2. While some players are unhappy with the in-game store prices and SMS Protect phone policy, this shows that the game has reached a completely new audience that did not play the original game.

Kiriko, the newest hero in Overwatch 2, appears to be a hit as well and being used over 2 million times in the first week. This is especially amazing given that she is not yet playable in Competitive Play as of this writing.

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned Overwatch player, the game’s popularity is fantastic news. While there were some issues in the early days following the introduction, the game is starting to gain popularity and is being played more often.

Overwatch 2 is a live service game with a new battle pass system that will receive regular updates with new events, heroes, maps, and cosmetics. While Blizzard continues to address different issues hurting the overall experience, some thank-you prizes are on the way for gamers. Anyone who checks in between October 25 and the conclusion of the first season will receive a Legendary Reaper skin and a Health Pack weapon charm for free. To assist players in progressing through the battle pass three double experience weekends have been announced. These will be available in the coming weeks.
